Info for summer DIS applicants (HWS Students)

DIS is an approved affiliate of HWS which means you are eligible to receive credit and CGE travel funding for this program. We send many students on affiliate programs each year, so please carefully follow the steps below:
Note that this is a dual application process, you will first be applying for approval to study abroad through the HWS online process. After receiving approval from the Center for Global Education, you will work to complete the remaining components of your HWS application while also completing DIS’s application process (mostly completed online). You will find that completing the HWS application will prepare you to complete DIS’s application.
DIS’s deadline for applying to this program is April 1st* for sessions 1, 2, 3 and May 1st* for the 7-week architecture program
*Remember, you must be accepted/approved to study abroad through the CGE before initiating your application with DIS. You should open your online application with HWS well in advance of the above deadline by clicking on the ‘apply now’ tab at the top of this page. Your application will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis with funding preference given to those who have their application materials in first.
You must be accepted by HWS AND the affiliate provider in order to be considered for funding through the Center for Global Education. Funding is limited, so make sure to apply as soon as possible. Funding decisions will be announced as early as the first week of December each year (for those who have completed their applications and been accepted) and continue until scholarship funds are depleted. For the highest chance of receiving CGE funding, you should aim to have your application completed by October 31 (the same deadline as our short-term programs).

DIS Application Instructions
- Students need to fill out a preliminary application online at:

- The minimum gpa requirement is 3.0 (although applicants not meeting this criteria may be considered in exceptional cases).

- Due to the academic rigor of courses at DIS, they will not accept first year students. Students must have completed at least three college semesters by the time the program starts.

- DIS offers 3-week and 4-week courses in a variety of subject areas and 7-week courses in architecture and design. Students will receive 1 HWS credit for a 3 or 4-week course and will receive 2 credits for the 7-week architecture program. All courses are taught in English. Students live either in residence halls with other Danes/ international students or in DIS housing with other students on the DIS program.

- Once your preliminary application is submitted and processed, assuming you meet the requirements, you will be emailed a username and password by DIS to access the full application.

- You will complete the full application online but will need to send one faculty recommendation and a copy of your transcript by mail. The faculty completing the recommendation can either give you the recommendation in a signed and sealed envelope for you to submit or can mail it directly to DIS.

- You also need to bring the “Endorsement from Home Institution” form to the Center for Global Education in the CGE for signing. You need to fill out and sign the top part and we will then check your gpa and discipline records before signing the form and sending it to DIS on your behalf. You can access that form here.

- HWS students do not need to pay the $50 application fee. This has been waived for our students.

- Once you have confirmed your acceptance of a place on the program with DIS, they will invoice HWS and we will bill you for the fees. You do not have to pay anything directly to DIS.

- DIS offers several need-based scholarships – see their scholarship info at

- Courses taken in the summer will be graded and factored into the previous spring’s gpa, unless you choose to take them credit/no credit.
