Info for summer DIS applicants (HWS Students)

DIS is an approved affiliate of HWS which means you are eligible to receive credit and apply for CGE travel funding for this program. In order to apply for admission to this program please carefully follow the steps below:
Note that this is a dual application process: you will first be applying for approval to study abroad through the HWS online process. After receiving approval from the Center for Global Education, you will work to complete the remaining components of your HWS application while also completing DIS’s application process (completed online). You will find that completing the HWS application will prepare you to complete DIS’s application.
DIS’s deadline for applying to this program is April 1st* for sessions 1, 2, 3 and May 1st* for the 7-week architecture program
*Remember, you must be accepted/approved to study abroad through the CGE before initiating your application with DIS. You should open your online application with HWS well in advance of the above deadline(s) by clicking on the ‘apply now’ tab at the top of this page. Your application will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis.
You must be accepted by HWS AND the affiliate provider in order to be considered for funding through the Center for Global Education. Funding is limited, so make sure to apply as soon as possible (ideally by the October 20th deadline for HWS short-term programs). Funding decisions will be announced by Thanksgiving Break for those who have completed their applications and been accepted and will continue until scholarship funds are depleted.

DIS Application Instructions
- Students need to fill out a preliminary application online. Under the First-time Applicants section, click "Get Started with DIS".

- Information about DIS summer sessions can be found here. Be sure to read through the options and offerings for each session.

- The minimum GPA requirement is 3.0.

- To be eligible for this program students must have completed at least 3 college semesters by the time the program starts.

- DIS offers 3-week and 4-week courses in a variety of subject areas and 7-week courses in architecture and design. Students will receive 1 HWS credit for a 3 or 4-week course and will receive 2 credits for the 7-week architecture program. All courses are taught in English. In some housing sites, DIS students live with other DIS students, and in others, DIS students share the building with local students. You will be placed in a housing site depending on which summer sessions and courses you are enrolled in.

- Once your preliminary application is submitted and processed, assuming you meet the requirements, you will be emailed a username and password by DIS to access the full application.

- You will complete the full application online, which includes uploading your transcript and completing a short DIS application essay.

- HWS students do not need to pay the $50 application fee. This has been waived for our students.

- Upon acceptance from HWS and your completion of the DIS application, the Center for Global Education will complete a Home Institution Approval form on your behalf, which you will see marked in your DIS application portal.

- Once you have confirmed your acceptance of a place on the program with DIS, they will invoice HWS and we will put the charge on your student account. You do not have to pay anything directly to DIS.

- DIS offers several need-based scholarships – see their scholarship info here

- Grades earned through this program will count towards your GPA and will appear on your transcript in the spring semester prior to your summer program.
